On Wednesday, March 29th, the boys’ varsity golf team traveled to Peacock Gap Golf Club to compete against Branson. The Giants shot a season-low 178, beating Branson’s score of 198. The team shot two under par for the day, and it was their lowest score in the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) this season.

Striking the Ball, sophomore Jack Mount goes one up one down for his third birdie of the day.

Senior captain Arjun Aujla led the team with a low of 32, along with four birdies and five pars. Sophomore Jack Mount played a large role in the team’s success as well, shooting two under par with three birdies and five pars. Jonathon Evers, a junior on the team, shot a 38 in his revenge game after transferring from Branson this year. Evers played a consistent round shooting two over par with one birdie and five pars.

Aujla and sophomore Brody Root teed off first and started the Giants off strong, shooting a combined six birdies and nine pars. Root teed off in the next spot for the Giants, collecting two bogeys and one double bogey.

“I felt like I left some shots out there and struggled early, and never got my score back together. The main thing is we got the win,” Root said.

While Root had an off day, he also observed how the team could improve before they travel to Palm Springs this weekend for a tournament.

Huddling up, the team finds that they shot a season-low.

“I feel like we could have done even better. We all left a few out there but we will get back at it. This match definitely showed us that we are ready for Palm Springs,” Root said.

Teeing off in the third spot, Mount started off slow on the first hole, collecting a double bogey.

“I got some confidence back on the second hole and even though I missed the putt and got a bogey, it’s important to forget your bad holes and move on. On [hole] three, I got a birdie to kick start my round and that helped me shoot three under for the rest of the round,” Mount said.

Mount emphasized how the whole team supported each other to secure the big win.

“Everyone on the team [played well].  [Sam] Sumski shot a 36 with four birdies and played his best all year, Jonathan Evers continued to play his game [and] Dominic [Orlando] also played very well in the six spot. It was a team effort, and we all relied on each other,” Mount said.

The team is hoping that the win and the momentum will fuel them to a successful tournament in Palm Springs this weekend and a successful MCAL season.
