Marin Catholic defeated the girls’ varsity water polo team in a fast-paced game on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
In the 12-3 game, Redwood’s persistent defense held MC to only two goals in the second half.
In the first quarter, MC immediately pulled ahead, scoring a goal in the first 15 seconds.
MC then scored three more goals in the first quarter, advancing to a 10-1 lead by halftime. Junior Madi Barsi scored Redwood’s first goal two minutes into the game.
MC, the number two-seeded team last season, showed a strong offense that Redwood worked hard to hold off. Junior Jennifer Schoonover scored twice in the second half, allowing Redwood to match MC’s second-half play. Goalkeeper Laurel Doyle faced lots of action and made several saves under constant pressure.
The game took place in the Redwood pool. The Giants will next play Sonoma Valley on Oct. 16 at home.
