Girls’ varsity lacrosse held their senior night on April 24, at home versus the San Marin Mustangs. The girls celebrated their graduating teammates by bringing high energy and working hard, which paid off in a 15-7 victory for the Giants. Redwood is now officially going into the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) playoffs undefeated in league play, under the Division I category.
After being down 4-2 at the beginning of the first quarter, the Giants quickly gained the upper hand by the second quarter with 5-4. Going into halftime, the Giants continued to lead, up 8-6. By the end of the game, five goals, an assist and two draw controls came from sophomore Phoebe Miller, three goals and four assists from junior Lucy Miller and sophomore Claire Johnson scored three goals. Junior Lucy Jeffers also won five draw controls and scored a goal. Team members were also directing their attention to seniors Presley Pewitt and Sadie Hann. Pewitt, a crucial part of Redwood’s offensive success, finished her final regular lacrosse season strongly, with two goals and a handful of assists.
“These four years have gone by so fast. It was the best four years of my life, and I love playing with this team. I am going to miss it so much after I graduate,” Pewitt said.
Junior Shea Donnelly reflected on the energy at the game.
“The game was so much fun, and it was such a great way to end our season going into MCAL’s. It also felt bittersweet to celebrate the seniors,” Donnelly said. “It felt so rewarding to end our season undefeated going into MCAL’s.”
