On Oct. 18th, the girls’ varsity volleyball team faced off against Terra Linda (TL), and they celebrated their seniors with speeches and flowers. Four seniors were honored: Ella Moran, Neeva Gaine, Anya Ghazi and Hanna Smith. The Giants entered the game in third place in MCALs with a record of 5-2.
Redwood had a strong start as they dominated the first set 25-7 with impressive performances from senior Ella Moran and sophomore Maddy Wagner. The Giants stayed consistent in the second set, as senior Neeva Gaine and freshman Milan Hendrikson held it down with numerous blocks at the net; they won this set 25-11. In the third set, sophomore Maddy Wagner was crucial to the momentum as she contributed several aces and gave the girls confidence. At this point in the game, the Giants came together with a dominant offensive performance to put the game away, destroying TL in the third set 25-13. Senior Neeva Gaine, a three-year varsity player and a key contributor to the team’s success, who is also committed to Cal State Fullerton for volleyball in the fall of 2025, showcased her talent throughout the game with dominant plays at the net.
“We have had lots of coaching issues throughout the years yet we all came together and worked well. I’m gonna miss the culture and the friendships I have formed over the years. This team has turned into a place to escape from school and just play the sport we all love,” Gaine said.
With a strong team effort, the Giants celebrated both a commanding win and the careers of their graduating seniors. Come show support and cheer on your Giants at their next game, Tuesday, October 22 against San Marin High School.
