A first-hand Slam Poetry experience

A+first-hand+Slam+Poetry+experience

In the spacious main room of the Mill Valley library, three of Redwood’s slam poets performed in a competition against poets from Tamalpais High School and Terra Linda High School. Sophomore Ali Janku, junior Stephanie Oh and senior Olivia Sinclair all made it to the second round of performances before Sinclair and Janku clinched first and fourth place, respectively.

Nine poets performed in the first round, and six passed through to the second round. Sinclair placed first, Janku placed fourth, Tam junior Megan Bartschat placed third and Tam junior Emma Weinswig placed second.

The poets inspired me to write a piece reviewing their performances and reflecting on the emotions they stirred in me. This piece is therefore a mesh of news and personal opinion in the form of performance reviews.
