The boys’ varsity basketball team’s season came to an end Tuesday night after a 56-45 loss to Newark in the first round of NCS.

Redwood fell behind early, failing to limit Newark’s offensive attack throughout the game. By halftime, the Giants trailed 36-21.

The team was unable to capitalize on Newark’s 15 turnovers, hindering their attempt at a comeback.

The Giants kept the score relatively close due to their success at the free throw line, despite shooting a dismal 28 percent from the field.

In the last 45 seconds, coach Steve Compagno entered five of his seniors, Blake Alm, Jacob Donick, LaRon Bullock, Will Breck and Elliot Dean to finish the game.

After the buzzer, members of the team walked back to the locker room with tears in their eyes.
