Redwood’s bleachers were filled with a sea of red and white clad fans, all of whom came to witness girls’ varsity basketball take home a 38-29 win against Marin Catholic Jan. 10 at 6 pm.

“We came out here to win. We wanted it,” said sophomore Heidi Roenisch.

Within the first minute  of the game, the Giants pulled ahead creating a six point lead. The first quarter ended with Redwood leading with a score of 10-4 . When the game neared the fourth quarter the Giants stepped up to strengthen their lead, scoring 16 points.

According to junior Hayden Dean, the team showed up with intensity and had the heart to win. The fact that the game was against a rival team didn’t intimidate or change the Giants will to win.

“Coach [Diane] keeps telling us that the league is going to be tight this year and anyone can take it, but they just need to have the will to win the game,” Dean said.

The team now holds a record of 3-1 and will be playing their next game away at San Marin on Jan. 13 at 6 pm.
