The girl’s varsity tennis team beat San Rafael High School in a home match on Thursday, Oct. 2, with a final score of 9-0.
Freshman Devon Cusack, who is ranked first in singles, beat her opposition in two matches with a score of 6-1 in both sets.
Freshman Jacqueline Massey-Blake and junior Lauren Wolfe, ranked first in doubles, defeated their opponents 6-1 in the first set and 6-0 in the second.
Sophomores Lindsay Thornton and Sophia Maranon, ranked second in doubles, played a solid game, winning the first set 6-3 and the second 6-0.
“I felt it was a team effort,” Thornton said. “We both supported each other along the way. Our challenge was probably staying consistent.”
Sophomore Ella Flax, ranked 25th, and Hallie Fox, ranked 22nd, played a nail biter, winning the first set 7-5, but losing their second set 3-6. They pulled it together in the tiebreaker, however, and came away with a 10-7 victory.
The Giants’ next home game is on Tuesday, Oct. 7 against Drake. The team is currently tied for first in MCALs with Branson.
