The Redwood Bark spent four days at the National High School Journalism Convention in Nashville, joining 5,000+ student journalists and returning inspired and energized with a fresh perspective.
We are excited to share that our first edition of the year earned 8th place nationally in NSPA’s Best of Show.
On Saturday, surrounded by thousands of journalists and advisers in a packed convention hall, several Bark students (“Barkies”) received national honors for standout work from the ‘24—‘25 school year.

NSPA Individual Awards
- 1st Place: Interactive Graphic: “Board of Trustees Discusses Yondr Phone Pouch Implementation” by Ben Mueller & Morgan Sicklick
- 2nd Place: Multimedia Feature: “A Compiled Report of the Current State of Social Media” by ‘24-‘25 staff
- 3rd Place: Comic Strip/Panel: “Student Security” by Lucy Jeffers
- Honorable Mention: Editorial Cartoon: “Schools starved from Lack of USDA Funding” by Penelope Trott

As for this year’s staff, Barkies excelled in the JEA National Media Contests. These participants competed against 1,600+ students in a timed atmosphere to win national awards for their writing, infographics, editing, and videography.
