Photo Essay: Redwood Community Celebrates Pi Day

Every March 14, students and math enthusiasts around the country celebrate the mathematical constant known as pi. Known for being a quantity whose decimal is never-ending, pi’s first three digits are 3.14, which is why it is commemorated on the 14th day of the third month of the year. Redwood holds a competition each year to see who can name the most digits of pi. Many courageous students took part, but two students, sophomore Julian Roth and freshman Maayan Bujanover dominated the competition. Roth came in first with Bujanover following close behind. In addition to the pi-digit competition, a pie-baking contest was held. The competition’s esteemed judges were counselor Ian Scott, Cameryn Smith, Finn Nelson and Ryan Rembrandt. Grace Gehrman won the competition for the second year in a row, this time as the only contestant who brought a pie to be judged. Her strawberry cream pie was universally enjoyed by all four judges.
