Photo Essay: Boys’ varsity soccer takes down Stuart Hall in rainy Senior Day matchup

On Saturday, Jan. 20, the boys’ varsity soccer team faced off in a rainy Senior Day matchup against Stuart Hall High School. With temperatures reaching as low as 50 degrees with on-and-off showers, both teams bundled up for what would be a slippery blowout in the Giants’ favor. Prior to the game, the 13 seniors representing Redwood had their names called, where they received a gift and shared heartfelt moments with family and friends.

After the special ceremony, the starting lineup, consisting of all seniors, took the pitch to begin the anticipated matchup. Redwood immediately took control of the game and never looked back; just six minutes in, senior Ensio Sardans scored on a cross over the middle. After the 1-0 start, Stuart Hall competed closely with Redwood for the majority of the first half until Redwood’s offensive attack strategy was too much to handle. Even with multiple missed shots, the Giants easily regained possession, which led to three goals in the last 10 minutes of the half.

Senior Theo Vasicek scored with seven minutes to go, followed up with a goal from senior Thomas Griffin, and to cap it off, a spectacular goal on a shot from senior Lucas Murgel.

Redwood went into halftime with a 4-0 lead, and the score would stay that way until the final whistle. With a conservative attack, the Giants maintained possession, keeping the ball away from Stuart Hall.

The Giants have been dominating as of late and look to continue their strong campaign at San Marin on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 6 p.m.
