Photo Essay: Varsity girls’ volleyball dominate in the first round of MCAL playoffs

On Wednesday, Oct. 18, the girls’ varsity volleyball team dominated their first Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) playoff game against rivals Marin Catholic (MC). This matchup was highly anticipated as Redwood came into the playoffs with an impressive 7-1 league record, with their only loss coming to Branson last Thursday. Redwood previously played MC on Oct. 5, when they effortlessly took them down in a three set sweep.

Redwood started slow, with the Giants losing the first set 25-22. But with the swings from outside hitter and senior Jaden Hendrickson, the Giants proceeded to comfortably control the rest of the game. The score reflected this control and confidence, as the girls finished the second and third sets with 25-19 victories and ended the game with a 25-20 score. Freshmen Maddy Wagner and Katie Lazzareschi were also able to make their mark in the Giants big win, helping the team with many kills and aces.

The Giants will be looking for revenge this Friday, Oct. 20, at Tamalpais High School, where there will be an important rematch against the Branson Bulls for the MCAL Championship Title.
