Varsity girls’ volleyball continues undefeated streak

The girls’ varsity volleyball team maintained their undefeated streak by dominating Terra Linda three sets to zero on Wednesday night by scores of 25-11, 25-23, and 25-9.

A high level of focus and intensity was apparent in the first and third games, with the Giants’ offense playing extremely aggressively. By the third game, Terra Linda was left attempting to form scrappy, defensive plays against Redwood’s myriad powerful hitters.

“We were quickly able to take care of the first and third sets by finishing with minimal unforced errors because of our communication and confidence,” junior McKenzie Cooke said.

The girls started and finished strong but found difficulty in their second game. Unlike the first and third sets, there was a dropoff of solidarity and intensity in the second set.

“The second game was a struggle because we lost so much focus,” senior Marguerite Spaethling said. “Terra Linda played well and took advantage of that.”

As the game progressed, motivational players such as Mari Molina and Adelaide Shunk helped to increase unity and competitivity with their strong plays.

Senior Lily Barber created a surge in momentum at the beginning of the third game by delivering seven serves in a row that lead to their concise win.

The Giants will continue persevering for an undefeated season at San Marin on Friday night.
