Sophomore Gaby Puentes initiates her serve with a high toss.

On Sept. 25th, the girls’ varsity tennis team competed in a well-fought battle against San Marin High School. It was a very close game, with San Marin barely pulling off a win, the final score being four to three. Battling both their opponents and strong winds, the girls fought hard throughout the game. 

Standout performances by freshmen Ira Shostakovich and sophomore Skye Gould who helped the giants keep the match close until the end. Shostakovich won her line 2 singles match 6-1, 6-1,, and Gould won line 4 singles 6-1, 6-3. The girls delivered outstanding performances across the board. 

Sophomore Gaby Puentes, along with her partner sophomore Scarlett Hackwell, took the first set of their doubles match with ease. Their opponents made a few adjustments, and the second set was an evenly matched battle with some impressive gets. Puentes and Hackwell took the second set in a close tie break. 

The giants fought hard and came close to winning, this being their second game against San Marin High School this season. 

The girls’ varsity tennis team will play Branson on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at home. In their previous matchup, Redwood claimed the win, setting the stage for a competitive match on Tuesday.
