Varsity basketball “blackout” game stops due to power outage

The much-anticipated Redwood varsity boys’ basketball game against rival Marin Catholic ended abruptly Friday night when the power went out in the crowded Marin Catholic gym.

Redwood fans cheer from the stands dressed in all black.

The packed gymnasium, and nearly 100 students still outside, erupted when the blackout occurred in the first quarter. Redwood had a slim 12-10 lead at the time.

While the cause of the blackout is not confirmed at the time, many speculated that it was the result of a blown transformer in the nearby area.

Redwood (6-1) will look to finish their blackout-themed game when it isn’t actually blacked-out.
