On Friday night, Jan. 17, boys’ varsity basketball matched up against the Terra Linda Trojans in what turned out to be a dominant battle. Although the win wasn’t a complete blowout, the team ended with a 19-point lead, with a final score of 62-43. From the tip-off, the Giants maintained control of the game with a comfortable lead, remaining consistent and composed with each passing quarter. Senior captains Semetri “TT” Carr, Brennan Woodley and Noah Tanaka led the Giants’ with Carr scoring 12 points, Woodley adding nine and Tanaka contributing six.
“We’re definitely coming together as a team and we’re seeing chemistry on the court, which is helping us secure the [wins] in our season,” said Tanaka.
The game was physical, with both teams battling fiercely for every possession.
“It got pretty physical, but we made it difficult for them to get a lot of chances,” said Tanaka.
Senior Simon Leonard suffered a tough foul that chipped his two front teeth after sending him crashing to the floor. Despite the physical nature of the game, Woodley believed the Giants turned the game’s roughness to their advantage.
“Overall, I think our size and athleticism won the game by scoring inside the paint,” said Woodley. The team’s grit was key to their success, helping them capitalize on a win over Terra Linda.
The next game for the Giants will be at Marin Catholic on Tuesday, Jan. 21, hoping to extend their winning streak and build momentum as they head deeper into the season.
