Photo Essay: Strong defense catapults boys’ varsity soccer past Tam.

On Dec. 6, the boys’ varsity soccer team took on Tamalpais High School (Tam) in a non-league game. Redwood took an early 1-0 lead as senior Thomas Griffin booted one past the goalkeeper, straight into the back of the net. From there, Redwood’s offense kept up the pressure, rarely allowing Tam to control the ball past the center line. When Tam made a push, Redwood’s defense was continuously there to stop them, maintaining a 1-0 lead when entering the second half. Early in the half, Redwood solidified their lead with a goal from junior Ben Sherry, making it 2-0. However, Tam quickly struck back, capitalizing on a breakaway to make the score 2-1 with 20 minutes left. The Giants succeeded in controlling the ball for the rest of the game, but were unable to score any more points. Strong Redwood defense neutralized any offense push from Tam and the Giants were able to win the game 2-1. The Giants will have a rematch with Tam at home on Jan. 25 for their official league game.
