On April 24, notable anchors Don Lemon of Cable News Network (CNN) and Tucker Carlson of Fox News parted ways with their respective news organizations. With Lemon being a widely watched anchor of a liberal media site, and Carlson being a widely watched anchor of a conservative media site, a large variety of news followers will be affected by these exits.

While it is unclear regarding the details of Fox News parting ways with Carlson, his leave was in the wake of the Dominion Lawsuit settlement in which Carlson’s controversial texts were revealed. Carlson’s texts included skepticism of claims made by attorneys affiliated with former president, Donald Trump, that the 2020 presidential election was rigged. Carlson’s texts also expressed his “hatred” toward Trump, a president which Fox News supports. Carlson had his own show on the network called “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” and he was the highest rated single host on Fox News while also being well-known for his far right content including his “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory.

Lemon was terminated from CNN the same day Fox News parted with Carlson. Lemon hosted two shows throughout his time at CNN: “Don Lemon Tonight” and later “CNN This Morning.” Lemon was recently criticized for his sexist comments made against Republican presidential candidate, Nikki Haley, in February of 2023, when he stated that Haley “isn’t in her prime” as a female politician in her 50s. However, neither Lemon nor CNN offered a reason as to why Lemon was fired.
