On Sunday, April 2, the mountain bike team had their second team race of the season at Folsom Lake State Recreational Area near Sacramento. Competitors rode either two or three laps around the five-mile course before finishing at Granite Bay Beach. Two races were previously canceled due to the unprecedented amounts of rain, so the Giants were looking forward to returning to the trails. Eleven teams came to the Granite Bay race, spending the day warming up, relaxing in their tents and biking. Redwood bikers participated in seven of the eight total Division I races, with girls and boys competing in divisions of freshman, sophomore, junior varsity and varsity competitions. The only varsity boys competitor, senior Lucas Nacamuli, placed sixteenth, while sophomore Ginger Howard placed ninth in girls’ junior varsity. In the freshman boys’ race, the Giants placed in four of the top 10 spots. Dylan Corteville started in last place after a quick fall but got back up and passed 50 riders before finishing in eighth place. After a successful day and finishing fifth overall, the mountain bike team looks forward to their next race on April 30 in Petaluma.
