On Tuesday, March 7, the boys’ varsity tennis team dominated in their match against Marin Catholic (MC), winning with a final score of 5-2. The Giants were well prepared having just played in a tournament against the best northern California teams this past Friday, March 3. The match began with two doubles matches and two singles matches. Junior Eric Stretevan and senior Kyle DeVilbiss faced MC players Colin Johnston and Ian Parnes. The Giants started off behind by a score of 5-7 in the first set, but quickly came back winning 6-4 in the second set. Both Stretevan and DeVilbiss carried positive energy on the court throughout the final set, but unfortunately lost 9-11 in a super breaker, a game that goes to 10 points instead of seven. Redwood seniors Jack Taylor and Tug Ricordel played as a doubles team on another court, facing opponents Mac Abele and Ajax Constantin. It was an easy win for these two partners, as they only lost one game in each set.

In singles, freshman Lukas Berger was playing against Qas Vidyarthi, and on another court, freshman Ollie Weston played against Jack Millar. Unfortunately, Weston lost to Miller by a final score of 3-6 in the first set, and 2-6 in the second. Lukas Berger on the other hand won the first set 6-0, and the second set 6-4.

Later on, Redwood’s No. 2 player, junior Jackson Sichel, faced MC’s top player, Andrew Gorzicki, and was dominant in both sets, only giving up three games. The Giants continued their matches as sophomore Jackson Tito Adams played against David Shepard. After a tight first set, Adams was able to calm down and cruise 6-0 in the second. Finally, senior Jackson Bramlette and senior Mateo Cubillos played doubles against Felix Adam and Charlie Miller. It was an easy win, and the boys only gave up one point.

Across the board, the matches against MC contributed to the successful season the boys’ tennis team has had so far, and for the future wins to come. Come support the varsity boys’ tennis team at their next match at San Rafael on Friday, March 10.
