A friend of Dylan Barry’s speaks in his memory at a vigil.

Dylan Barry and his uncle Robert Dunn were killed in a car crash on Highway 1 in Sonoma last weekend.

Barry, who was a sophomore at Redwood, and his uncle, a former mayor of Corte Madera, died instantly after the vehicle struck a roadside tree, CHP reported. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported that Dunn was driving when the crash took place at around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

According to the CHP, the Ferrari 355 GTS that belonged to Dunn was eclipsed in flames moments after impact. It was reportedly unlikely that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Barry was a member of Redwood’s football team and an alumnus of Hall Middle School.

A candlelight vigil was held for Barry at Redwood on Monday night. About 200 students, staff members, members of Barry’s family, and other members of the community gathered as some of Barry’s close friends told stories and expressed their love for him.

Principal David Sondheim sent an email to all Redwood families on Sunday night informing them of the tragedy, and noting available resources for those in need of grief counseling or support.

According to another email sent by Sondheim, the Redwood High School community is welcome to attend Barry’s funeral service. The service will be held April 21 at 2 p.m. at the Marin Lutheran Church, located at 649 Meadowsweet drive in Corte Madera. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Corte Madera Recreational Center. Those who are unable to attend the service are still welcome to attend the reception.

Students in need of support can be connected with Redwood’s full-time school psychologists and other community counseling resources through their counselors in Rm. 103.
