Giants continue to gain momentum with victory over Terra Linda

The lights of the newly constructed stadium in San Rafael glistened as Redwood’s offense outran Terra Linda’s defense with a score of 37-13. Throughout the game, Terra Linda’s defense was outpaced by Redwood’s run game as senior Luke McKernan slashed and dashed all over the porous secondary. Redwood’s offense, led by quarterback Matt Smallbach and McKernan, strived as McKernan amassed 207 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns. Taking home the win, Redwood has continued to build their momentum with a four-game win streak.

After the Terra Linda Trojans came out the gate hot, scoring on their first drive, Redwood rebounded by completing a seven play drive which resulted in a touchdown. Redwood’s gritty defense, lead by seniors Jack Loebbaka and Joe Calzaretta, forced the Trojans to punt the ball back to them. On the next drive, Smallbach threw a long touchdown to senior wide receiver Maximo Tribuzio. Important conversions on third and fourth down kept Redwood’s offense as they dominated in possession time. Redwood’s momentum never stopped, running up the scoreboard to a 36 point deficit in the fourth quarter.

Redwood looks to keep the pistons turning in their powerful offense as they face the San Marin Mustangs, on Oct. 5, 2 p.m. at home.
