The Giants messed with the Bulls, got the horns but attain favorable victory

After a near sweep by the Miramonte, the girls’ tennis team looked to take on their first MCAL match against the Branson Bulls on Tues., Sept. 5. Although unfortunately the Giants would fall to the Bulls.

Last year the Bulls ended up defeating the Giants in a close match for the MCAL championship, so Zeisler understands the level of competition that they bring. According to Zeisler, a victory would be a great confidence builder to start off the season.

The Giants had strong finishes from senior Molly Kehoe and junior Quinn Perozzi, as well as victories in doubles by seniors Christine Watridge and Ella Ong Bamola and sophomores Gabriela Rosenfeld and Lindsey Dubin during the match against Branson. Unfortunately, the Giants fell four matches to five in a close matchup between the MCAL rivals.

The following day, the Giants had a chance of redemption in a bounce back match facing school rival, Marin Catholic. The Giants were victorious, and the final score was eight to one.  According to Zeisler, this was a good opportunity for players who don’t normally get to play in matches to gain experience. Although she said that it’s also a good match for girls who do play to get work in.

Ong Bamola, who has been playing since her freshman year, stated that she and her doubles partner, Watridge, were ready for their Wildcat opponents.

“It’s definitely going to be interesting because we’re playing someone who was on our freshman team. We kind of know her well and I think our strategy is staying consistent like not let their game interfere with ours. We have to be aggressive and adjust to the match,” Ong Bamola said.

Their next match is against the Terra Linda Trojans at Redwood on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
