Boys’ soccer continues winning streak in season finale against Novato

The boys’ varsity soccer team avoided a potential “trap game” against Novato on Thursday, getting out to an early lead and never looking back during their 4-1 victory.

The Giants won convincingly behind an impenetrable defense and an offense that capitalized on scoring chances.

Senior Dany Rodas got the team going with a shot that deflected off of teammate Brian Diaz and eventually found the back of the net. Less than fifteen minutes later, Rodas found himself on the receiving end of a perfectly-placed through ball, which he put away to give the Giants a 2-0 lead at the half.

Redwood’s offense didn’t slow down in the second half, as junior Eamon Rogan scored off of a corner kick to add to the Giants’ lead.

After opening the league season with two losses,  the Giants have finally seemed to hit their stride, losing only one of their final eight games. They finished the regular season in third place in MCAL with a record of 11-6-2 (9-3-1), trailing only San Rafael (12-6-2; 10-2-2 in league) and Drake (13-3-2 10-3-1 in league).

Redwood will look to continue their three-game winning streak in the playoffs as they face Terra Linda at home on Monday, Feb. 6.
