Girls’ varsity basketball overcomes Branson

The girls’ varsity basketball team defeated the Branson Bulls 33-21 on Saturday, Jan. 10.

Strong play on the defensive end of the court created points for the Giants’ offense early in the game.

“We ended with a lead at halftime and that gave us confidence to push even harder and get an even bigger lead,” said junior Layla Dunne.

Two-year varsity player Nicki Yang and sophomore Zoe Stachowski were both sidelined by injuries and senior Kayla Rose was absent for family reasons, so Redwood relied on other players.

“A lot of our key players were out,” Dunne said. “We knew that a lot of people needed to step up, [which] they did, and it turned out well.”

The Giants (2-2) take on rival Marin Catholic (4-0) at home on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
