Volleyball Advances to NCS Finals

The Redwood varsity volleyball team dominated Montgomery high school on Wednesday night, earning their fourth consecutive trip to the NCS championship.

The girls, who defeated Montgomery during the regular season, won 25-18, 25-16, and 25-14 in three sets.

“I thought that was the most focused game since we started NCS,” said Libero and senior Lily Barber. “I am really proud of us for finishing the match in three [sets], especially because every game the level gets harder and harder, and we stayed at our high level.”

Early on, the girls started off playing slowly and missed multiple serves.

“The difference was we uncharacteristically missed a lot of serves as a team early on,  but we didn’t let those serves get in our heads. We stayed aggressive the entire time,” Barber said.

Junior Mari Molina added that the team was well prepared and ready to go from the start.

“We work hard every day in practice and I think it shows in the games,” she said. “We just came out fired up and it showed on the court as the game went on.”

Barber has played as the varsity Libero since her freshman year.

“Even though winning the MCAL championship this season was amazing for us, we are never content with just that. We’re expecting to go to NCS and see how far we can go after that,” she said.
