The ball was given to Helfet to commemorate his Super Bowl victory. It is traditionally awarded to the athlete to be given to their high school as a gift.

“To this day I still hang out with my friends from high school,” Helfet said. “I had a really good time at Redwood.”

According to Helfet, he shares a bond with his current coach, Pete Carroll, who also attended Redwood and is a member of the Redwood hall of fame.

“Me and Pete always joke around about it before games,” Helfet said. “We always say things like, ‘Wow we came all the way from Marin.’”

Helfet also took the time to catch up with his old teachers, giving hugs and taking pictures with both students and staff members.

At the end, Helfet left a message for the football team.

“Beat [Marin Catholic], guys,” Helfet said.
