Girls’ lacrosse defeated by Novato in MCAL championship

The girls’ lacrosse team discovered early why Novato was heavily favored in the MCAL championship game at Drake on Friday, May 8. In the first four minutes of the contest, the Hornets scored four times, with another eight consecutive goals mid-way through the first half, and went on to trounce the Giants 21-5.

The Giants, who were coming off a tight 10-9 semifinal win the day before against University High, received goals from juniors Lauren Watkins, Hayden Dean, and Emma Mulvey, who scored twice. Freshman Violet Loo also found the back of the net in the second half.

Besides reaching the MCAL finals, the Giants can take comfort in knowing that virtually all the starters—excluding senior Christine Cook, their standout goalie—will be back next year.

But first, this year’s team will have the opportunity to play at least one more game together. They are expected to be in the NCS field, which begins in the week ahead. The draw is expected to be released this weekend.
