Film focus class premieres short flims

On Sat, June 7, a combination of Redwood, Tam, and Drake students premiered their short films in the Little Theater.

Organized by film teacher Peter Parish, students from all three film programs showcased their films and answered questions about each film.

Seven films were shown, five of which were created by Redwood students. With films ranging from short action movies to documentaries, the five films produced by Redwood students were: “Anarch,” produced by Alex Herz, Thaddeus Hassell, and Jack Bushell; “All I need,” produced by Malik Shakur, Michael Gonzales, and Julien Almond; “Bear,” produced by Robby Warfel, Samantha Smith, and Kate Caganek; “Puddin’,” produced by Brenden Mahoney, Noah Gottesman, and Stevie Becker; and “Trunk Space,” produced by Timon Eggerbrecht, Jon Carter, Patrick Fitzsimmons, and Sam Abrams.

“I always wanted to bring these programs together for a screening,” Parish said. “There was always so much going on in each of the programs that it never happened until now.”

Before creating the final films, each students pitched a 3-2-1 film: a three minute film with two characters and one location. The class voted on the top five film ideas and had the next two months to produce them.

Parish hopes to expand and move the event to a county-wide screening in the Larkspur and San Rafael theaters, to have more students participate and show their films.

“I am really proud of all the work this year,” Parish said. “There has been an incredible leap in the student’s work. I am looking forward to next year’s films.”
