Boys’ golf swings into NCS

For the fourth consecutive year, the boys’ varsity golf team has won the MCAL pennant.

The post season tournament took place Monday, April 28 amongst Redwood, Justin Sienna, Branson, Marin Catholic, Novato and Drake. Redwood won by shooting 392 as a team once they dropped the lowest score, an 88.

The starting six consisted of seniors Chris Laub, Jonathan Shaw, Alex Gotz, juniors Matt Cinelli and Yoshio Boris, and sophomore Nick Laub.

Shaw, one of the co-captains, said that the team could have played at a higher degree.

“I think as a team we could have played better,” Shaw said, “We will have to play better to win NCS.”

The tournament took place at San Marin’s home course, and to qualify, a team had to have a record of .500 or better. However, it was not a problem for Redwood to qualify considering they won the MCAL regular season title last Thursday, April 24.

Shaw shot a 71 and is looking forward to their NCS tournament on May 12 at Peacock Gap.
