On March 24, the Redwood varsity baseball team defeated Branson 7-4, led by a dominant pitching performance and a strong five-run fourth inning. The Giants maintained their position at the top of the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) standings. The win also marked another statement performance as the team continues to prove why they are one of the top teams in the league.
After a scoreless start, the Giants took an early lead with one run in the second and another in the third inning. Branson quickly responded with two of their own runs, but Redwood pulled away in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to take control. The fourth inning proved to be the turning point as Redwood took advantage of their talent on the plate and Branson’s errors to pull the game away.
Redwood’s offense tallied a run in the second and third innings, with a fourth inning surge scoring five runs, proving to be the difference. The Giants showed depth with multiple players contributing timely plays and persistent pressure.
Redwood’s starting pitcher, Landon Brunk, led the way. Brunk pitched six innings with 10 strikeouts, two walks, and just one hit allowed. His ability to control the tempo of the game and get ahead of pitch counts kept Branson’s hitters off balance throughout the game.
“My curveball was working best today. It had a sharp break, and I had really good control over it,” Brunk said. “I was also getting guys to put the ball in play early and keeping my fielders engaged.”
Brunk emphasized that added motivation came from the opposing team’s pregame energy.
“Branson was talking before the game about how they were going to beat us, and that lit a fuse under me,” Brunk said. “It gave me extra motivation to come out strong and set the tone early.”
Despite some choppy fielding and early inconsistency at the plate, Redwood managed to stay composed and continued to apply pressure throughout the game.
“We were a little low on energy early, but once we started putting runs on the board, that really flipped the momentum,” Brunk said.

Senior team captain Ethan Ferry credited both pitching and disciplined at-bats for the win.
“We pitched well, kept ourselves in the game, and started putting up runs by working at-bats,” Ferry said. “That’s what allowed us to stay out in front.”
With the win, the Giants continue their push at the top of the MCAL standings.
“We expect to win every game we play,” Ferry said. “It’s just about keeping that momentum and focusing on the next one.”
