By the time the sun was setting over Mount Tamalpais, crowds of family and friends were watching intensely by the fence, cheering on doubles partners sophomore Adrienne Demosse and senior captain Indah Herzenberg as they battled it out in an intense tie-breaker match. The duo displayed strong serves, rallies and effective communication throughout the game, yet the point got away from them in the end with a close score of 2-6 and 7-6.
On Friday, Oct. 3 at 3:30 p.m., the girls’ varsity tennis team faced off against Tamalpais High School (Tam) at home. Both teams had the homecourt advantage since Tam has been practicing at Redwood due to the recent construction; Tam was the home team for the match. After several close and competitive matches, Tam ended up pulling out a win with a final score of 2-3 in a nail-biting third set tiebreaker.
Each match was close, with standout performances from junior Julia Povio and sophomore Scarlett Hackwell, who swept their doubles match. They demonstrated strong teamwork and quick reflexes with scores of 6-2, 6-2. Senior captain Sienna Rouass fought hard in a difficult singles match, displaying determination and composure under pressure. Despite her hard efforts, she ultimately fell just short in a tight second match with a score of 7-6, then 3-6.
Even through the loss, the team’s energy and focus never faded. Come support the Giants at their next game against Novato on Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 3:30 p.m. at the home.
