Senior Nick Jones looks on in the final minute of a deflating loss to Branson on Friday night.

The boys’ varsity basketball team could not overcome a strong Branson defense on Friday night, as Redwood (8-4) fell to first-place Branson (10-2) at home 51-34.

Junior Will Breck fires a three-pointer over Branson's Henry Feinberg. Redwood's excellent three-point shooting faltered against the Bulls, as the Giants shot just 5-of-23 from beyond the arc.

Branson’s starting five held Redwood’s explosive offense to a season-low in points by forcing a flurry of turnovers. Senior forward Taylor Walton led Branson with 18 points, dominating the Giants all night with a balanced repertoire of jump shots and post moves. No Giant scored in double digits, with senior Molefi Thompson and sophomore Mike Sullivan each contributing eight points.

The 17-point loss represented Redwood’s largest margin of defeat in MCAL this year.

The Giants drop to fourth place with their second consecutive loss but will look to bounce back at home on Tuesday against San Marin.
