Trends from the past are constantly showing up in the current fashion world and this pattern is showing no signs of slowing in today’s teen wardrobe. By looking into some classic 1990s runways, it’s clear that the new generation of teens are bringing back ’90s fashion with a modern twist in their variety of patterns, textures and colors.

The 1993 Marc Jacobs’ for Perry Ellis Spring collection was an iconic 90s runway that featured controversial grunge styles, some of which are still appearing today. Model Kate Moss wore a casual, relaxed-fit graphic tee that many teens have brought back which feature their favorite artists and brands. Meanwhile, model Carla Bruni wore a short, babydoll-style, black-and-white patterned dress which has come back in full swing as a tank top, still featuring the empire waistline, where the fabric flows down from the midsection. Many models in this runway featured cardigans including Helena Christensen and Yasmin Le Bon, but neither of them emulated the modern style of cardigans like Gail Elliot did. She featured a short yellow cardigan which was only buttoned at the top, which perfectly exemplifies the way that current teens are wearing their cardigans.
Another 90s runway that featured looks that are prominently seen today is the Anna Sui Fall 1998 Ready-to-Wear Collection, which embodies texture and bold silhouettes. One unknown model in the show wore orange trousers in a baggy style that perfectly emulated the style of relaxed jeans the many teens wear today. Additionally, model Shalom Harlow featured a blue, orange and purple patterned baggy sweater that teens today have brought back with billowing sleeves, stripes and/or solid colors. Lastly, model Carolyn Murphy wore a shimmery green-gray tube-dress, which teens today have modified into a top with a fold over the chest.
In today’s fashion world, students can be seen wearing clothes from a variety of popular trends including graphic tees, babydoll-tops, cardigans, baggy jeans, oversized sweaters and tube tops. All of these trends have their own modern style, but really, they all originated from classic ’90s runway fashion.
