Mill Valley resident Umar Baporia brought the summer sizzle with the opening of Humble Cheesburger, a food truck located in Menke Park, Corte Madera, earlier this summer. The truck keeps things simple: smashburgers—beef pressed hard onto a blazing hot griddle to create a thin patty with a deep caramelized crust that crackles with flavor in every bite.
Baporia’s house burger comes in single, double, or triple stacks of Halal Harris Ranch beef. Each patty is cooked directly on the griddle without oil, allowing the beef to sear naturally and form a crispy crust. The patties are seasoned with salt, mustard, and seared onions, then topped with gooey New School American Cheese. The stack is finished with tangy house sauce and pickle slices, all sandwiched between a soft Martin’s potato roll.

I tried both the double and triple burgers. The meat was fresh, perfectly smashed, packed with flavor and thanks to the oil-free cooking, the burgers weren’t greasy. The bread was soft, and the combination of ingredients melted together perfectly. The mustard and house sauce added a nice tang, though I wished there was a little more of both. It was a perfect smash burger-crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy in the middle.
The fries were seasoned well, soft on the inside, and perfectly crunchy on the outside. The food truck setting was charming, inviting, family-friendly and easily accessible, while the prices were reasonable, starting at 10 dollars for a single. The beef was high-quality and the overall experience was so tasty that I’d definitely go back. It’s also a perfect lunch or dinner spot for students—quick, affordable, and satisfying after a long day of class or a sports event. Unfortunately, I couldn’t try the sundaes because the machine was broken, but the burgers and fries made up for it.
