Lacrosse fundraises with Wall-ball-athon

As the pre-season revs up for lacrosse, both the boys’ and girls’ teams are excited to play on the new Ghilotti Field, made of turf and scheduled to open in February.

In order to finish paying for the field, both the girls’ and boys’ lacrosse teams participated in the first ever Wall-ball-athon behind the gym on Jan. 25.

Much like a typical walk-a-thon fundraiser, each player was required to get parents, friends, and relatives to sponsor them to continually rebound lacrosse balls off of a back wall of the school. It was stipulated that each player showed up anywhere from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for at least 30 minutes.

According to the boys’ team mom, Libby Tracy, the boys raised around $3,000, while the girls’ team raised about $6,000.

Tracy said that the teams needed to recognize the Redwood Foundation for the new field, and that the money they raised could possibly go towards scoreboard or bleachers. She also said that the Wall-ball-athon was a great way for the players to get better and raise money for the field.

Junior Ethan Baer said, “[The fundraiser] was a pretty good way to practice lacrosse and raise money.”

Baer showed up at 10 a.m. and played for a half an hour, raising $60 in proceeds that he collected from his mother, father, and grandmother.
