With summer upon us and abundance of free time at most students’ disposal, teens tend to get sucked into the social media spiral. Without the weekday structure of school, the phenomenon known as the “summer slide” – a decline in knowledge due to lack of school reinforcement – can affect many students. To counter that, Redwood English teachers offer an easy solution: summer reading! English teachers Kendall DeAndreis, Steve Hettlemen, Raquel Fay and Jeff Ryan offer their insights on ways to stimulate your mind and enjoy the blissful summer with a few books. Their two cents include recommendations for good reads, the balance between fiction and nonfiction and tips for those who’ve struggled to enjoy reading in the past. This summer, take a page from your teachers and add summer reading to your agenda!
