Softball chants flooded the Dutra Diamond field instead of the usual rain as the Redwood Giants faced off against the fierce Alameda Hornets. Junior Stella Belloumini, the pitcher, kept the Hornets at bay for the first inning until they drew a walk and scored one run. Belloumini would continue fighting hard for her team defensively, as in her five innings on the mound, she struck out a commanding 4 hitters. Offensively, junior Ava Brown went 2-for-4 in her batting attempts, driving in the Giants’ only successful reach to home plate. Attempting to fuel a late lead, sophomore Kait Christensen walked twice while junior Ashley Ball got a hit. However, Alameda didn’t let up as the sun went down, and their players drove in three more runs. The game ended in a final score of 4-1, an unfortunate performance early on in the Giants’ season. The girls hope to turn their season towards a winning streak in the next game on Monday, March 3 at Bishop O’Dowd.
