Boys’ varsity basketball took home a well-earned 71-66 win against the Archie Williams Falcons to be the leading team going into Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) playoffs. A devastating loss for Archie Williams as it was their senior night, but an exciting win for the Giants in a closely contested game.
Redwood came in strong in the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the match. The game was tight in score, but they rebounded quickly in continuously leading the score by around 10 points the rest of the game. The Giants were up by eight points at halftime with the score at 39-31.
Fueled by the Falcons’ senior night energy, the excitement in the stands was high. Senior captain Semetri “TT” Carr carried the game, scoring 32 points in total. His clutch free throws in the final quarters kept the team ahead. Scoring 11 points, senior captain Noah Tanaka proved himself to be a standout player in the game. Accompanied by Tanaka were seniors Mason Garbo, Tyler White, Zach Dinowitz, Simon Leonard and captain Brennan Woodley, who all had outstanding performances and contributed immensely to the final win.
Both teams were evenly matched and played hard. With this win, the Giants solidified their position as one of the top contenders for the MCAL league title. Catch the Giants at their next MCAL home game on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. Their opponent is to be determined based on whoever wins in the quarterfinals of the MCAL circuit.
