Photo Essay: Varsity girls’ tennis scores yet another victory in their undefeated MCAL season

On Oct. 4, varsity girls’ tennis continued their undefeated Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) streak with a 7-0 win against Tamalpais High School (Tam). Junior Jordan Marotto, the number one player on the team’s tennis ladder, defeated Tam’s number one player while winning both sets. Additionally, in a long-lasting singles match versus Tam’s number two player, junior Ella Povio came through with a victory. After winning the first set, Ella Povio also fought to secure the second. Junior Julia Laury, Redwood’s number four seed, and freshman Julia Povio, the third seed, were both able to defeat their opponents in impressive singles matches. The doubles pairs did not fail to execute either. Also contributing to the 7-0 win were pairs Livia Klompus and Lindsey Reed, in addition to Gwen Ricordel and Annesley Krawitt. First year head coach and parent Tracey Porter is excited about the rest of the season.

“I didn’t have any expectations coming into this [season], so [the team is] blowing my mind. They’re all so much fun and such good players. I am learning so much from them.” Porter said.

Along with Coach Porter, a crowd of friends and family members cheered on the team as they competed in this challenging but successful match against Tam.

The varsity tennis team will face San Rafael on Friday, Oct. 6, at San Rafael High School.
