On April 6, the girls’ varsity lacrosse team battled in a highly anticipated game against Marin Catholic (MC). Having been beaten in overtime and then winning against MC in the Marin County Athletic League playoffs last year, this year’s competition was a toss-up. Setting an optimistic tone for the game, the team honored their seniors with posters, flowers and fond memories from their season together so far in a heartfelt moment.

Freshman defender Lily Pirsch was on the field the whole game in the position of midfield.

“It’s nice to have the leadership of the older girls to guide us as role models,” Pirsch said reflecting on the game.

MC took an early lead in the game with 3-0 MC with 16 minutes left in the half. Still behind, the score was 5-2 MC with four minutes 30 seconds remaining in the half.

Pirsch spoke on the frustrating, slow start in the first half for such a big game.

“The game was high stakes and everyone was getting in their own head,” Pirsch said.

Bringing it home, the Giants had unstoppable momentum in the second half and reached a tie with both teams at 10 points each. In a familiar sequence of events, going into overtime, freshman Lucy Miller scored the winning goal. The team will follow up their rivalry win with a matchup against Novato on April 18.
