On Sunday, April 2, the popular High School Basketball Super League, hosted by Marin Social Sports, came to its conclusion with its championship game being played between The Gents and Backseat Elite. Going into the playoffs, both teams had an 8-2 record; however, because of a head-to-head overtime win in the regular season, The Gents had the tiebreaker and were awarded the first seed, while Backseat Elite was the third seed. Both teams played well, winning close playoff games and eventually reaching the championship. The Gents got off to a hot start securing multiple defensive and offensive rebounds, which helped them take a quick 10-0 lead. After going down early, Backseat Elite intensified their defense, allowing them to get out in transition and score some fast break points. The game was close at halftime, with The Gents leading 19-16. The game remained close and competitive during the second half as both teams struggled to expand upon a lead. Eventually, a buzzer-beater layup by Marin Catholic senior Will Shehan earned The Gents a place in history as the 2023 Winter Champions.
