With 15 minutes left in the second half, senior Dany Rodas fired a shot past San Marin’s goalie, putting the final touches on Redwood’s 4-0 victory on Saturday, Dec. 10.
San Marin’s defense was able to hold Redwood’s tenacious offense until twelve minutes into the game, when senior Jack Daffern launched a shot past the goalie, setting the tempo for the rest of the game.
Shortly into the second half, junior Aaron Schten scored another goal off of a penalty kick to give the Giants a comfortable lead.
Rodas led the offense by scoring two more goals in the second half, propelling Redwood to their victory.
After starting MCAL play with two losses against Tam and Drake, the Giants were ready to turn their season around.
According to coach David Siracusa, the Giants had been preparing for this game all year and were ready to show their skills.
“The things that we worked on were small group tactics on defense and front third scoring chances,” Siracusa said.
Junior co-captain Eamon Rogan said that the team knew exactly what they had to do going into this game.
“We had good trainings all week to prepare because we knew we needed to win. We started off the season a little bit lackadaisical, and we needed to come out and win the game today, and we got the job done,” Rogan said.
Siracusa said the team will continue to maintain a strong defensive line to ensure their overall strength in numbers as they get ready for their upcoming matches.
The Giants will look to add to their 1-2 league record in their home match against Terra Linda High School next Saturday, Dec. 17.
