On Tuesday, Jan. 13, the boys’ varsity basketball team secured a win against the San Rafael Bulldogs 66-60 in overtime during their first home Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) game of the season. From the opening tip, both teams battled back and forth, exchanging scoring runs and matching each other’s intensity on both ends of the floor. The Giants heavily relied on senior leadership as they gained momentum late in the game. Senior captains Leo Centeno and Jake Post led the way offensively, scoring 17 and 19 points respectively, as Centeno finished the night with five three-pointers. After multiple three pointers by Centeno and aggressive drives from Post, the Giants began pulling away. Towards the end of regulation, the Bulldogs responded with a 14-7 run, ultimately making a three point shot to push the game into overtime. In the extra period, Redwood stepped up offensively, outscoring the Bulldogs 15-9. Post led the way with six overtime points, helping the Giants secure the victory. With the win, the Giants improve to 2-0 in MCAL as they prepare to take on the Terra Linda Trojans on the road this Friday, Jan. 16.
