The girls’ varsity field hockey team powered past Marin Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at home, earning a decisive 8-0 victory. 

From the opening whistle, Redwood controlled possession with sharp passing and relentless offensive pressure, scoring four goals in the first quarter. 

Senior Lucy Jeffers set the pace early, scoring three goals within six minutes. Assisted by junior Kaitlin Stewarrt and senior Mariel Goodhart, Jeffers’ scoring ability gave the Giants immediate momentum. In addition, Junior Tatum Buoy added another goal before the end of the first quarter, pushing Redwood ahead 4-0 and forcing Marin Academy to defend for the remainder of the half.

The Giants carried their dominance into the second quarter, finding ways to break down Marin Academy’s defense and extend the lead to 6-0 by halftime. Even with the high advantage, Redwood continued to attack with intensity, determined to execute the strategies they had been practicing. 

In the second half, Goodhart converted a penalty stroke in the third quarter, a moment that highlighted Redwood’s ability to capitalize on every opportunity. Goodhart sealed the win with the final goal in the fourth quarter, bringing the tally to 8-0. 

Coach Hadley Bell praised the team’s ball movement and composure. 

“We had some really amazing passes,” Bell said. “We’ve been working really hard on these things in practice, and it’s good to see it all come together. This was a big confidence booster. We had all types of goals, including a stroke.”

Junior goalie Meredith Levine credited her teammates’ ability to stretch the field. 

“We used every part of the field, we didn’t just stick to one side,” Levine said. “This win gave us momentum we’re planning on taking with us through [the Marin County Athletic League field hockey tournament].”

The victory showcased Redwood’s balance on both offense and defense, underscoring the team’s depth and positioning as the season continues.
