On Monday, Sept. 22, girls’ varsity tennis faced Marin Catholic at home, serving success with a victory of 6-1. The excitement kicked off with both team’s lineup announcements, followed by their ritual cheer on the court.
Sophomores Gabi Puentes and Scarlett Hackwell led the way with a 6-2 win in both sets of their doubles match, followed by junior Julia Povio and her partner, sophomore Adrienne DeMos, winning their first set 7-5 and their second 6-3.
The Giants won three more matches that increased their lead against Marin Catholic, including sophomore Alessia Bailliet pulling through and finishing her game with a score of 6-4 in the first set, and 6-2 in her second. Their only loss of the day came from a two-hour, tiebreaking match between sophomore Wells Von Stroh and Marin Catholic junior Natalie Martin, where Martin ultimately took control in the second set, winning 7-6, 6-1.
Girls’ tennis will battle it out at San Marin at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, hoping to continue their five-match winning streak.
