On Wednesday, Sept.10, the girls’ varsity tennis team played Archie Williams in a home match for their fifth game of the season. Their record this season is 4-1, and they looked to continue their winning streak with another victory.

Redwood was in the driver’s seat for most of the game, nearly sweeping Archie Williams with a 6-1 victory, their only setback coming in a close tiebreak.

The team had a great start to the match with sophomore Adrienne DeMos winning both sets 6-0. Junior Bella Garbo gave Redwood another win with her tiebreaker match of 10-6. Junior Sabine Khan was in a head-to-head match, losing her first set 4-6, ultimately coming back with a second set win of 6-1. Khan fought down to the end, ultimately losing the tie break 10-12.

The doubles teams executed their games well, bringing the team 3 more wins. Junior Lila Nahrgang and sophomore Skye Gould won their first set 6-2 and lost their second 6-7, ending strong with a tie-break score of 10-5. Despite this, no group or individual stood out more than senior captains Sienna Rouas and Indah Herzenberg, who showed tremendous teamwork with an impressive score of 6-1 and 6-0. Rouas gives the credit for their seamless partnership to the number of years they spent together, on and off the court.

“I know [my partner]. I know exactly how she plays, and she knows exactly how I play,” Rouas said.

Her partner, Indah Herzenberg, feels that being on this team with Rouas all four years has created a special bond not just as teammates, but as great friends as well.

“It’s on the court and off the court, it’s not just a team friendship, it’s an actual friendship, which really contributes to how we play on the court,” Herzenberg said.

Coming off this big win, girls’ varsity tennis is hoping to keep up the momentum with their upcoming matches next week against Terra Linda and San Rafael.
