Dressed in unison from head-to-toe, the MCs kept the energy high with their infectious positive attitudes.

On May 28, Redwood celebrated the end of the 2024–2025 school year with its annual spring rally, held in the Big Gym. The event featured a mix of musical performances, spirited games and class competitions, bringing students together in a high-energy conclusion to the year.

Leading the rally were seniors Julia Laury, Charlotte Lacy and Katelyn Van Dusen, who served as the Masters of Ceremony (MCs). Throughout the event, the trio boosted audience engagement by introducing each segment and moving with a swift pace.

Many students represented their school spirit in the form of Redwood-themed fashion. In large numbers, seniors arrived in their personalized overalls decorated with slogans, glitter and patches while the juniors wore their custom class jerseys. The color red was a unifying feature across all four grades.

To build anticipation at the start, student representatives for each grade waved their class flags around the gym. The flag bearers hyped up their grades as students filled the bleachers.
The rally opened with a live performance of the national anthem, sung in harmony by seniors Ally Woodruff, Madeline Rand and Izzy Babb. Applause followed as the school’s Advanced Performance Workshop took the stage, performing ‘Crazy on You’ by Heart with a full band including vocals, drums and guitars. Then, a few rounds of ‘Finish the Lyric’ took place as the various grade levels enthusiastically attempted to out-belt each other with popular song lyrics.

One of the most chaotic — and crowd-pleasing — events was musical chairs. Divided evenly among the grades, 16 students competed in rounds that combined chair-snatching with scavenger hunts, retrieving unexpected items like flip-flops, Apple watches and even a pair of identical twins from the audience.

Peer Resource took a more reflective turn, dimming the lights for a segment that emphasized the importance of community and support. The program’s annual ‘Shine the Light’ activity offered a pause in the action and was met with quiet attentiveness from the crowd.

Later, the gym turned into an obstacle course during a multi-stage relay race for a competition between varsity teams from girls lacrosse, boys baseball, swim and track. The relay included scooter-board races, floaty tosses, balloon popping and a mattress slide. Teams competed with coordination and speed while the audience cheered them through the course. The baseball team moved with exceptional rigor and ended the race as champions.

The final announcements highlighted upcoming Senior Week events, awarded staff members Nickolai Butkevich, Dina Craft, Marissa Peck and David Plescia for exceptional work and introduced the newly elected Associated Student Body officers.

The rally concluded with seniors flooding the court to the tune ‘Good Old Days’ by Macklemore. With music playing and cheers echoing, students exited the gym just before 12:45 p.m., marking the close of another year with spirit and celebration.
