Just two days after the varsity baseball team’s victorious Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) championship that brought Redwood’s 2024-2025 MCAL win count to 13, parents and athletes came together to celebrate seniors at Sam’s Anchor Cafe in Tiburon. The athletes were treated to a buffet and conversed with their peers and parents in the restaurant and on the deck by the water, before the awards ceremony began. Principal Barnaby Payne, assistant principal Saum Zargar and athletic director Jessica Peisch gave out numerous plaques and medals honoring the athletes and their achievements both in their respective sports and in the classroom and community. Notable awards included the Andrew O’Dorisio award, honoring James and Kristi’s son, Andrew, who overcame cancer in his junior year, given to Marcos Ornellas for his strength after a tragic surfing accident. In addition, Semetri Carr and Maya Saibel received the Marin Athletic Foundation award, only given to two student-athletes per school, who will represent Redwood at the county athletic recognition event. Memories and hugs were exchanged as high school sports careers came to an end, a bittersweet event leading towards graduation.
