On Tuesday, Oct. 8, boys’ varsity water polo faced off in a high-stakes matchup against Campolindo High School, the fourth-best team in the state, while the Giants rank ninth. After a hard-fought match, Redwood won 14-13 in the final seconds, improving their record to 13-1. Redwood started the game in a tough battle, ending the first quarter tied 3-3. After goals from senior captains Sawyer Goldberg and Ossie Joplin to start the second quarter, Redwood got hot. Thanks to excellent defense from junior goalie Owen Malone, Redwood went into halftime with a comfortable score, leading 9-5. After back-and-forth goals in the third quarter, Redwood went into the fourth quarter up 11-8. However, Campolindo decided that they were not going to go out quietly, tying the game up late in the fourth. But, with two late goals from Goldberg and another goal to take the lead from sophomore Maddox McClellan, the Giants were able to escape this game with a close win over a top team in Northern California.
The Giants will travel to Archie Williams High School on Thursday, Oct. 10. Both teams are undefeated in the Marin County Athletic League and will fight to for first place.
